The Red Skull could have been the villain for The Avengers

Do you remember the times when Zak Penn was writing Marvel movies such as Elektra and X-Men: The Last Stand? Well apparently he was due to write the script for The Avengers before Joss Whedon re-wrote the whole story!

Zak Penn's idea was leaked online last year and revealed that instead of Joss Whedon's Chitauri attacking the Earth's Mightiest Heroes, it was in fact The Skrulls! Agent Coulson and Maria Hill were also set to be Skrulls.
It was revealed in an interview that the movie would have failed crucially if Joss Whedon were not involved.


“My job was to keep revising the draft…for about four or five years, that’s what I did. The story was basically the same, but it kept shifting. Then, once Joss (Whedon) came in, he took over from there.”


He also said that he wanted to have The Red Skull as the main villain for the movie and would have The Avengers be made before Thor.


“If I thought I could have gotten away with Thanos. I would have put him in there.”
